My son Eli, has the red and blue picnic table I am sure you have seen at your local toy store. It looks like this:
So when the lovely ladies at Crafterminds invited me to play along with their Krylon Dual Paint Challenge I jumped at the chance! So I got to spraying!
Supplies:
6 FULL cans of Krylon Dual Paint &Primer in one {3 in purple, 3 in sun yellow}
saw horses
painters blue tape
level
scissors
PATIENCE!
Step 1: I took apart my table
Step 2: Read the directions, and shake, shake, shake!
Step 3:Start spraying! I sprayed the bench seats first, but it could be your choice. {make sure you get all the inside grooves}
Step 4: Let those dry. Move to the next piece!
Step 5: Get your next piece and start Spraying! {again make sure you get all the grooves}
Step 6: Let that piece dry and move back to the bench seats!
Step 7: Spray the other side that is not painted.
Step 8: Let it dry! Move the table and spray the underneath!
Step 9: Flip it on the saw horses and start spraying!
Step 11: Break out the blue painters tape and a level or whatever will keep you and your lines straight. I used the width of my level as the width between my lines and it worked out just fine. You could measure it out if you were so inclined. Repeat until the entire table is lined with painters tape and you are satisfied.
Step 12: Put the table back on the saw horse and cover the bottom legs so you do not get purple spray paint on them, you want them to say yellow!
Step 13: Spray over the yellow table with the purple being careful not to get any purple not on the legs.
Step 14: Let it dry 10 minutes, then peel off your tape!
Step 15: Put your table back together & SHOW IT OFF!
I loved redoing this table! Eli walked out into the garage and said "Mom, this table is just perfect." I love that boy! I cant wait for him to use it this coming football season. It was the biggest project I have ever done but I am so glad I did it and I am so happy with the way it turned out!
I have linked up all over this week stop by and check out these parties too!
What an awesome project! Ready for some LSU football now huh?
ReplyDeleteSpray is the best! Especially krylon...Love the color combo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect LSU bench!!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It turned out so wonderful! I would have never thought to spray paint that. Isn't spray the best though?! I prefer it so much more than hand painting!
ReplyDeleteAwesome makeover! I'm planning to do the same thing to my boys' plastic picnic table, but I bought the spray paint for plastics because I was afraid regular might scratch off too easy. I love the stripes:)
ReplyDeleteSahweet! great job!!! The yellow and purple matches your blog almost =) haha
ReplyDeleteThis is so, so cute!! Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!
wow we have the same little table...great idea!!!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so happy you spray painted something like this! I totally love it. I will have to try it!

How adorable is this?! I love the new fresh look of it, and I'm jealous of all your grass! We don't have that much here in Phoenix :(
ReplyDeletePs- great name you have ;)
I spray painted a similar plastic table we have with the "plastics" spraypaint and it started scratching off almost immediately. How did you keep yours from scratching off??
ReplyDeleteI recently pulled from storage our son's small picnic table to be used by HIS son and nephew! Yep, 24 years of storage. It is faded orange and yellow, but the little ones didn't care...they LOVE this table. But definitely think a new paint job will make it more fun. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea, love the stripes! I've featured this post on Craft Gossip here:

I read that Little Tikes uses something in their plastic that keeps you from painting it easily...just wondering how this table is holding up a few months later? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWondering how your table is holding up I did the same thing and mine didn't last 6 months, at least not the seats and table part the sides did ok. I just today re painted the sides and covered the top and sides with cloth then vinyl covering I would love if you checked out. http://caroline-frei.blogspot.com/

Hi Lauren, I recently painted my little tikes swing set with Krylon & it's scratching off. Just wondering what I may have done wrong. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI've been surfing online more than 4 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.

Wondering if the paint job held up or if it ended up scratching off, like some previous posters were concerned about...
ReplyDeleteI, like several others, am wondering how this paint held up. Did you keep it outside or use it inside? Can you provide an update?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It doesn't look good if there is no reply about how well the paint held up--I'm guessing NOT.
ReplyDeletePlease do us the courtesy of getting our traffic and post a follow-up to so many requests regarding the durability of the Krylon paint. Thanks.
