Only
a Southerner knows the difference between a hissie fit and a conniption fit, and that you don't "HAVE" them,
you "PITCH" them.

Only a Southerner knows how many fish, collard greens, turnip greens, peas, beans, etc., make up "a mess."

Only a Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of
 "yonder."

Only a Southerner knows exactly how long
 "directly" is, as in:
"Going to town, be back directly."

("
Dreckly" in my family)

Even Southern babies know that
"Gimme some sugar" is not a request for the white, granular, sweet substance that sits in a pretty little bowl in the middle of the table.

All Southerners know exactly when
"by and by" is. They might not use the term, but they know the concept well.

Only a Southerner knows instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a neighbor who's got trouble is a plate of hot fried chicken and a big bowl of cold potato salad.

If the neighbor's trouble is a real crisis, they also know to add a large banana
 puddin'!

Only Southerners grow up knowing the difference between
 "right near" and
"a right fer piece." They also know that "just down the road" can be 1 mile or 20.

Only a Southerner both knows and understands the difference between a redneck, a good
ol' boy, and po' white trash.

No true Southerner would ever assume that the car with the flashing turn signal is actually going to make a turn
..

A Southerner knows that
"fixin" can be used as a noun, a verb, or an adverb.

Only Southerners make friends while standing in lines
, .... and when we're "in line", we talk to everybody!

Put 100 Southerners in a room and half of them will discover they're related, even if only by marriage.

In the South,
y'all is singular, all y'all is plural.

Southerners know grits come from corn and how to eat them.

Every Southerner knows tomatoes with eggs, bacon, grits, biscuits, and coffee are perfectly wonderful; that red eye gravy is also a breakfast food; and that fried green tomatoes are not a breakfast food.

When you hear someone say, "Well, I caught myself
lookin'," you know you are in the presence of a genuine
Southerner!

Only true Southerners say
"sweet tea" and "sweet milk." Sweet tea indicates the need for sugar and lots of it -- we do not like our tea unsweetened. "Sweet milk" means you don't want buttermilk.

And a true Southerner knows you don't scream obscenities at little old ladies who drive 30
 MPH on the freeway.
You just
say,"Bless her heart"... and go your own way.

To those of you who are still a little embarrassed by your
Southerness: Take two tent revivals and a dose of sausage gravy and call me in the morning, bless your heart!

And to those of you who are still having a hard time understanding all this Southern stuff.....bless your hearts, I hear they're
fixin' to have classes on Southernness as a second language!

Southern girls know
men may come and go, but friends are fahevah !

Now
Shugah, pass this on to someone who was raised in the South or wish they had been! If you're a Northern transplant, bless your little heart, fake it. We know you got here as fast as you could.

Happy Saturday everyone! As you read I am {hopefully} enjoying a fruity drink on the beach! Our family vacation begins today, we will be back on Wednesday! So post may be few and far between until then.

My friend Jenn sent me this email during the week and I immediately thought, this is PERFECT for Southern Saturday! What I find most funny is that Jenn is the LEAST Southern of all my friends, she's a "Yankee" but we still love her!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Summer Safari Party Part 2

Today is the last day of the Summer Safari Party! Make sure you have linked up all your great front porches, pennants, and now recipes to their respective linky parties!
Thank you to Lauren, Heidi and Kyla for hosting this fun party! I loved this! It was fun! I hope the others and yall had fun too!

So here is my Summer Recipe

Southern Pralines

Now I know you cant read my Mom's handwriting, but isnt this the cutest recipe card? Here's what the actual recipe says and believe me when I say the pralines arent the only thing that is southern about this recipe, this is the shortest recipe for something that can easily be screwed up, there should be some explaining and there isnt LOL...it takes practice is all I am saying.

What is actually says will be in black what it should say I will post in purple ;)
1. Toast pecans ( approx 2 cups for about 5 min or until you can smell the pecan throughout your kitchen)

2.Add 2 cups of white sugar, 1/3 cups of light Karo syrup, and 6 oz of condensed milk to a pot with a pinch of salt.

3. Cook for approx 6 min- (stirring the ENTIRE time- this mixture will be VERY HOT!!)

4. (Have a small cup of cold water next to the stove and as the mixture is cooking and starts to melt into candy mixture, it will begin to turn a carmel color as it does drop a tiny amount into the cold water try to form into a small ball, if this easily happens the mixture is ready to be taken from the stove.)
5. Take mixture off stove.
6. Add pecans, 1 tablespoon of butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla (this will bubble) KEEP STIRRING!
7. Beat the mixture until dull (IT WILL SEEM LIKE ENTERNITY, ITS NOT, KEEP GOING)
8. Spoon mixture onto wax paper

9. Wait a few minutes till cooled and ENJOY!!

My mom, two sisters and I made these for my cousins wedding as favors and it took all day. Most people in the South make them for the holidays. My favorite is my Grannys...no one can touch them and I mean NO ONE!!

Dessert Night

Saturday we are leaving for our annual family vacation to Florida. We used to cook a big meal each night and all get together to eat at one condo. Now there are to many of us to do that so we are eating dinner in our own condos, and having dessert together each night. So I was thinking I needed to have a SUPER yummy dessert to have for one night. So where did I go for my inspiration? PINTEREST, where else?
{Not sure yet which one I will make but I will be sure to come back and give a review.}

This look soooo good! Chocolate Chip Dip from Taste of Home
Uhm Twix Triffle- yeah I'll take two! from Gimme Some Oven
Or how about Reeses Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bars from The Sweets Life

Or I could just make anything from my twitter friends blog

Photobucket
Like any of the following..

It all looks so good I cannot choose, all I know is that I am REALLY hungry right now!
I have also come to the conclusion that I may have a slight cand bar obsession as well ;)

I am now an Etsy seller!

And I have to say I am beyond scared. Not so sure why but the, thought really freaks me out. So many of my friends have Etsy shops and they do great with them. So I have no reason to believe that I wont do well. And if it doesnt, then what have I lost? Nothing really, I am still able to make banners and party designs for all of my family and friends and thats what I love the most!

Here's a link Warm & Fuzzy Blog Shop so geaux and leave me some feedback good or bad- i can handle it - I think ;)

So my husband is getting into my crafting, he has even downloaded an App- Craftgawker where he is giving me all of these ideas, its quite funny! Anyway, tonight he calls and says someone from work was getting rid of this table

and he is bringing it home. He is going to take the glass off and attempt to make it a bench for Eli. Eli is going to FLIP! Hopefully its done for his birthday. Which is Cars themed. I also made his birthday invite today what do you think? Thank you Pinterest for the idea with the cars.

Happy Tuesday!! Only 4 days until we leave for the beach!!

Southern Saturday- {Hurricane Season}

This month marks the start of Hurrican Season here in the South. Hurricane season begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30th. (The most active times are July-Sept.) Scientist are projecting 17 named storms in 2011, including nine hurricanes and five major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson scale. {info from stormtrack.org). I know that not all of my followers have the risk of Hurricanes, or that its not just a Southern thing, but you may have the risk of tornadoes or earthquakes and these tips may be useful to you the event of one of these natural disasters.

Here is a link to a downloadable evacuation checklist {click for checklist}

How Does She has an AWESOME post on putting together 72 hour emergency kits for kids and it is easily adaptable for adults as well. They have it all seperated into categories like Clothes, Food, Emergency Supplies, Light, Money, and even a little section for FUN. This is a great way to make sure you have everthing you need for each person in your family if the need arises for an evacuation or a natural disaster happens. BE PREPARED!

I hope you take a few minutes to get things together for your family! Be Safe! And pray for no hurricanes!

My 2 Goals for the Summer

My 2 goals for the summer are to:
1. Start my etsy shop
2. Get Organized

1.Well. I actually opened the shop on etsy, but have not listed any products, they are all still on my bar waiting for me to take pictures of them. {what am I waiting for?} I also need to make a few more banners.
I will. I will. I will. I will. I will.

erindavenport.tumblr

2. Organization in my house is very laxed. I really try but with me having to do it all myself, and Brian working at night- all of the housework falls on me, taking care of the boys falls on me, well all of it falls on me. So I have been looking on Pinterest {my new favorite place to be} for some organizational ideas. Here is what I have found.

Love these from centsationalgirl.com to keep toys & {stuff} under control in the boys room's.

Need to print this and hang it in my kitchen from kamleylane.com

I think this is the greatest idea from southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com
you could do magnets on one cabinets, dry erase on one, and cork on the other.
{LOVE IT}

 I think this is a {GREAT} idea from ana-white.com
Like her, my clothes are always clean they just never make it to the dresser, they just live in the baskets!

I am sure, there are more organizational items I can find on Pinterest and thats where I will spend most of my day LOL, because its like crack. But hopefully I can get a move on and get some things done!!

Craft Space Envy

Hi my name is Lauren and I have Craft Space Envy. All of my craft stuff is in bags, boxes, and storage containers on the floor in our walk in closet. I HATE HATE HATE having to take all of my crafting stuff out of the closet every time I need to work. And worse is having to go back and forth every time I need something I didn't take out of the closet. Again HATE it!! So here is what I spent most of my day while laying in bed with a migraine doing- scanning Pinterest looking for craft space inspiration. I need to carve out a space in our house for ME and really make it my own. So here are some that I am loving...yes some of them are actual rooms and I do not have an extra room in my house but one can dream right?
