Southern Saturday- {Hurricane Season}
This month marks the start of Hurrican Season here in the South. Hurricane season begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30th. (The most active times are July-Sept.) Scientist are projecting 17 named storms in 2011, including nine hurricanes and five major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson scale. {info from stormtrack.org). I know that not all of my followers have the risk of Hurricanes, or that its not just a Southern thing, but you may have the risk of tornadoes or earthquakes and these tips may be useful to you the event of one of these natural disasters.
Here is a link to a downloadable evacuation checklist {click for checklist}
How Does She has an AWESOME post on putting together 72 hour emergency kits for kids and it is easily adaptable for adults as well. They have it all seperated into categories like Clothes, Food, Emergency Supplies, Light, Money, and even a little section for FUN. This is a great way to make sure you have everthing you need for each person in your family if the need arises for an evacuation or a natural disaster happens. BE PREPARED!
I hope you take a few minutes to get things together for your family! Be Safe! And pray for no hurricanes!

After sitting in our house riding out Ike, we will never stay for a hurricane again. NEVER EVER.
ReplyDeleteUGH! Hurricane Season! BOOOOOOO! 3 years ago {almost 4 now} when we first moved to Louisiana we evacuated twice within 3 months! The 1st one, Gustav, I think, missed us, luckily, but we weren't so lucky for Ike, lots of flood damage in town. None for us, thankfully. Anyway, for Ike my hubby was in Germany and I had a 7 month old, 2 cats & a dog to evacuate! No fun!
