We have been soooo busy

Between being sick and willing myself better just in time to hit the streets for Mardi Gras in New Orleans we have been soooo busy around here. I have had NO TIME for crafting...NONE. But I have been blog surfing which is how I spent my Friday night and look at all the great ideas and inspiration I have found:

These are all on my March to do list:
(I love how I make these list and more than half of it never actually gets done, but at least having a list is an attempt right? LOL)

From the girls at eighteen25
I mean seriously,How cute is this for your kids?
My students usually graph lucky charms as an activity in class, the activity just got a WHOLE lot cuter!

From KikiCreates

Isnt this just the sweetest thing? Great to hang on the door as loved ones walk out, that way its the last thing they see as they leave for the day.

From Crafts By Amanda

I think these are just adorable and are so easy to make, hours of fun for the kiddos.

Thats all for tonight folks...I hope to be back tomorrow with some birthday craftiness soon very soon

Mardi Gras Yarn Ball Garland Tutorial

Yay..my friend was able to pull SOME of my pics back from the dead. I have a few take with my iphone those are pretty crappy quality, but you get the idea. I love the way this turned out. LOVE it!

My inspiration from A Pretty Life in the Suburbs
Here we go. I am using traditional Mardi Gras colors: purple, green and gold. You could use this for whatever holiday/occasion who wanted to celebrate.

Gather your materials, colored yarn, Styrofoam balls of assorted sizes, and of course your glue gun.

Because I don't have a snazzy kitting needle like the tutorial from A Pretty Life in the Suburbs, I had to use a pencil to make a hole through the ball :) So that I could string it through on the yarn to make the garland.

A help from Boy Wonder #1, I can see you.

Pick a color and start wrapping, a put a dab of glue every once in a while where you feel its a little loose.

Make sure you leave the holes on the end uncovered so that you can string them on the garland!

All done wrapping and gluing.
I may make some more and put them in a hurricane vase on my island I love these so much!

WARNING: Here come the iphone pics...YUCK...sorry couldn't get finished product pics back from the dead computer.
String them up in a cute pattern you like.

Waaaay to fuzzy but I hope you get the idea....its really really cute.

Enjoy and Happy Mardi Gras!

Dear Shape Magazine: I want my $$ Back!!

So dealing with sick kiddos and baby teething..and teaching and all kinds of other mommy stuff I have negleted my blog for that I am sorry. But today as I was checking out at Walmart while have one of the worst migraines I have had in a long time I saw SHAPE magazine with a huge headline. THE DRUG FREE HEADACHE CURE: IT WORKS!! Now if you dont know me, you wouldnt know this but I suffer from severe migraines. I take two daily preventative meds and have two other meds if Iget a migraine, so something like this would catch my attention. I have had migraines that have put me in bed for days, sent me to the ER for shots, IV's etc. Yes, they are bad. So a headline like this had me interested. So after dealing with mommy stuff tonight I sit down with the magazine tongiht all ready to read up of the latest new headache cure. Here it is: Are you ready?  Are you sitting down? Get a pen? Get a piece of paper?

An ice pack.

REALLY. A FRICKIN ICE PACK?

If you have ever had a headache or a real migraine an ice pack is not going to help. I was seriously so mad. I know maybe for a tension headache an icepack may relieve the pain, but for anything else its not going to work I am seriously wanting to write SHAPE a letter and telling them I want my money back. I know maybe it was the day I had and the amount of meds I had to take to actually have my migraine go away..but things like this bug me. OK..soap box over...

I promise to be back tomorrow with my Feb. to do list of crafts. Jen from Tatertots & Jello has to cutest project from the Dollar Store!! Yay!

Mardi Gras Crepe Streamer Wreath

I finally have some Mardi Gras decorations in my house! Yay me! In New Orleans there is always a party so we go straight from Christmas to Mardi Gras. Not many people decorate for Valentines Day. I have lots of decor up for Valentines Day but since its almost over and Mardi Gras is right around the corner on March 8th, now I start decorating for that...so here is my first attempt at a Mardi Gras wreath.

I started with a $1 store wreath and 3 colors of Mardi Gras streamers

Cut them into long strips and then over lapped them into a cross and made little pinwheels

Here's my little pinwheel parking lot- I made lots and lots these.

I also cute about 6-8 strips to wrap around my wreath, to section off my wreath. I found it was easier to glue to the streamers than to the wreath itself.

It looked like this from the front when I was done wrapping the wreath in the strips.

Here's the back view.

Half way through, adding pinwheels and fluffing as I went.

Here is my finished product, I dont LOVE it, but I think its Cute Enough!

Happy Mardi Gras :)

Door Hanger Tutorial

I successfully completed a craft and I am happy with it! YAY Me!!
With all of my crafts going wacko these days I am happy to post this tutorial for my front door

Valentines Day Door Hanger:
Materials:
I had the door hanger cone from years ago, 3 styrofoam balls ( only used 2), scrapbook paper of your choice, skewers, paper streamers of your choice, had the "be mine" hanger but didnt use it.

Step 1: Wrap your cone or other hanger shape in the scrapbook paper of your choice, my piece was a little short at the top so I cut another strip and glued it to the top to cover.

Step 2: Add some tissue paper to the bottom of the cone or container you choose to "fill" and leave a little at the top for "show" you will see why later.

Step 3: Start cutting strips of your streamers- LOTS of them, I made bunches of  ruffles like this and cut the ends and then stacked my strips like the 2nd picture.

Step 4: Then start to glue and glue until tomorrow- just joking ;) I glued one strip of the streamer around the ball and one square on each side.

Step 5: I laid one strip criss crossed over the other and pulled upward to make a tiny looking pinwheel like these- my pinwheel parking lot. Start gluing them on in rows or where you think they look good and it looks poofy.

Step 6: When I was completely done with the ball and I like the fullness of it I added my stick, I added a glob of hot glue to make sure it would stick.
Step 7: Repeat for 2 or 3 flowers, depending on  how big or how many flowers you want.
Step 8: Add flowers to your hanger -hang on door
Step 9: ADMIRE YOUR WORK!!
